Hello!

Thanks for visiting my website. I'm focusing on the blog now, while Allison and I gear up for our trip to Asia later this year. My published writing is also archived here, as well as travel photography from previous trips I've taken.

Postcard mania

Postcard mania

After spending half of 2015 traveling around the United States—and, yes, nearly three months living in Portland, Oregon—things feel like they've slowed to a crawl here in Rochester. The pace of life in my parents' house is very slow, I don't have many friends left in town, I'm not working much, and the days can feel a bit aimless. Allison is working a lot, saving money so that we can travel more, and I'm trying not to waste the money I already have saved. It's an in-between time.

I've been pretty diligent about sending my parents postcards whenever I traveled for the last several years, most of which have taken up residency on the refrigerator. Purely for my own edification, I'm listing them here, in the order they happen to be on the fridge, which is arbitrary:

  • Bozeman, Montana
  • Roswell, New Mexico
  • Los Angeles
  • Badlands National Park
  • Weed, California
  • Arizona
  • Bryce Canyon National Park
  • Berlin
  • Wyoming
  • Zion National Park
  • New Orleans
  • Joshua Tree National Park
  • Lake Tahoe, California/Nevada
  • Reno, Nevada
  • The California Republic
  • Las Vegas
  • Sonoma Coast
  • Detroit
  • Hollywood
  • San Francisco
  • Salvation Mountain
  • South Dakota

Throw in the EARTH/ART bumper sticker and the classic "LOVE" photograph of my parents standing against their friend Diane's garage, and you have quite an impressive collage. It's important to hold onto—and take note of—these tangible things ...
